Question #1) Tell us a little about yourself and how you got to this exciting point in your career?

Hi. I am Vic Bhagat — the Site Leader for GE’s new Advanced Manufacturing and Software Technology Center in Michigan … and Chief Information Officer for GE Corporate Information Services.
It’s hard to believe that, just 16 years ago, I started at GE Appliances as a Pricing Manager in their Louisville, Kentucky plant.

From there, I sprung into a series of technical IT roles — serving as Chief Information Officer for GE’s Corporate Audit Staff where I focused on driving information management controllership … to serving as Vice President & Chief Information Officer for CNBC.

In 2002, my background took me to India, where I was CIO for the entire India and Southeast Asia region … and was responsible for leading the company’s Global Development Center strategy.

And then in 2005, I came back to the states to manage all enterprise applications and services across GE.
Just recently, I took on my most exciting career opportunity yet –- heading GE’s brand new Advanced Manufacturing and Software Technology Center in Michigan.

Question #2) Tell me a little bit about how this Center will open similar doors of opportunity for IT professionals and researchers interested in working there?

Well, if you you are looking to embark on a technical career with one of the best companies in the world, I can honestly say that this Center is the place for you. It’s an investment in technology and people.

It’s about hiring the best and the brightest … and giving them access to the latest technologies … and surrounding them with industry leaders who’ll match their big ideas and inspire them to even greater ones.

It’s about working on the newest IT initiative or research project that will help make our GE manufacturing businesses across multiple industries – like aviation … and energy… and healthcare — even more innovative, more productive and more competitive.

Question #3) Tell us about your timeline for hiring … how many jobs and when?

Sure. Our goal is to grow the Center to roughly 1,100 GE employees over the next few years.
This will include IT professionals, as well as scientists and engineers. In fact, when all is said and done, it is expected that this facility will house the largest concentration of GE IT professionals worldwide.

As far as timing goes, we have a variety of positions currently available and posted on the GE Careers website that interested candidates can check out. And additional positions will be available in a staggered approach over the next few years

Question #4) What kinds of jobs or skills are required?

The majority of our positions will be specialized Information Technology roles, such as business intelligence, networking, information security and data architecture.

These folks will be working on the IT infrastructure and applications that serve as the backbone of some of GE’s biggest innovations. The Center will also house scientists and engineers developing next generation manufacturing technologies for GE’s leading renewable energy, aircraft engine, gas turbines and and other high-tech products. This will include experts in the areas of composites, machining, inspection, casting and coating, and more.
